Music is Good for Your Heart?

Sep. 11, 2009

We’ve all heard that music is good for the soul, and that eating a balanced diet is good for the heart, but did you know that music is a good way to give your heart a work out?

According to ScientificAmerican, songs with crescendos (think Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irp8CNj9qBI) ), led to proportional increases in blood pressure and heart rate; these decreased during decrescendos. “Rich” music phrases also “caused parts of the cardiovascular system to synchronize with the music.”

So, next time you’re feelin’ a bit down, turn up some Queen and feel your heart kickin’ it old school style.

Sarah Jarosz

Aug. 6, 2009

“I think was moves me is when people are really true to themselves, and when people give it all they got.” – Sarah Jarosz

Sarah Jorosz just turned 18.  And she’s already been called a “prodigy” in Rolling Stone’s recent review of her debut album “Song Up in Her Head”.  Her contemporary country sound comes from Austin TX, where she’s clearly committed to learning from the roots but taking her music in its own, youthful direction.

In an interview earlier this summer, Sarah commented about balancing a career in music and being a teenager. "Many times it would feel as if there were two lives going on," she stated. "But sometimes they would coincide with each other — in calculus class.”

Pop duo Chester French is BLOWING up right now… their debut album was embraced by Kanye West and was recently released on Pharrell William’s label.  Singer David-Allen Wallach was raised in Milwaukee and still calls it his home, although the band is now based out of LA (of course).

"It's been a long time since I've heard a project teeming with this sort of musicality and originality. You're going to watch history unfold with these guys. I feel it in my gut." – Pharell Williams
